Assalamualaikum wbt & good day everyone

First & foremost, congratulations on making it to university! It's an exciting journey ahead. University life is not just transition from high school but university life is about being able to live independently. It can be a bit overwhelming, but here are 5 essential tips to help you in preparing your university life!

1. Understand the Basics
Firstly, you need to understand the basic life of university. When I mentioned about basics, what I mean is the orientation. I know the orientation can be boring (I admit it as well when I entered the uni life.hahaha). But actually it was good to attend the orientation because you'll be able to understand your uni structure more (which I hope they organized the orientation program well). Learn where the key resources such as the libraries, student centre or services and pusat kesihatan pelajar or uni.

You need to understand your course requirement - like credits, core subjects, elective subjects, and the grading system.  Remember, understanding the basics sets the foundation for your entire university journey.

2. Financial Planning
Financial planning is a very important thing that you need to learn because you will be managed your own expenses. Whether you are receiving scholarship, sponsorship or PTPTN loan, you need to manage your financial well because university can get expensive especially when the course you're taken need to do lots of projects.

Start with a simple budget. Track what you spend, prioritize your essential things and the most important thing is don't spend for couple things unless if you are already a CEO of your company. This is the most likely issue to come up (i think i would talk about it later). Dont forget to set aside a small emergency fund for unexpected expenses. If you want to do a part-time jobs or businesses, make sure that you'll be able to manage your own schedule. Alright?

3. Time Management
University life can be busy with many activities, assignments, exams and events, so it's easy to feel overwhelmed. Use tools like planners or apps to organize your daily task and weeks. Actually you can use Google Calendar to manage your schedule. But if you want to look for more organize apps, you can use HabitNow. So far, it works for me.

You can use Pomodoro technique for focused study sessions. Balance is key—don’t forget to schedule downtime for yourself. Good time management helps you make the most of both academics and life.

4. Networking
University is not just about study and books but it's about connections too. I encouraged you to join clubs, societies and any events that interest you. Events that give beneficial to your career growth.

It’s a great way to meet people, make friends, and build a network. And don’t forget to connect with professors—they can offer guidance, mentorship, and even career opportunities. Building a strong network now can open doors for your future.

5. Embracing the Diversity
As we all know that university is a melting pot of cultures. Yes, this is Malaysia. We have different races and cultures, we live with that. Step out of your comfort zone, attend diverse events, and engage in conversations with people from different backgrounds.

It’s a chance to grow, learn, and see the world from new perspectives. Keep an open mind, respect others’ opinions, and you’ll make the most out of this experience.
